Live And Work With A Bias Toward Action

Fast Company has begun a series of articles and videos called Work Smart, focusing on ideas and systems to, well, work smarter. They are hosted by Scott Belsky, author of the national best-selling book Making Ideas Happen and CEO of Behance, a company that develops products and services for creative industries. Behance's products include the Behance Network, the world's leading platform for creative professionals to showcase their work, and The 99%, a think tank and annual conference focused on leadership and execution in the creative world.

In these videos Belsky talks about a bias towards action, reactionary workflows and project plateaus.

Copy, Transform, Combine

Henry Ford didn’t invent the motor car, Rockefeller didn’t discover how to crack crude oil into petrol, Disney didn’t invent animation, the Macdonald brothers didn’t invent the hamburger, Martin Luther King didn’t invent oratory, neither Jane Austen, Tolstoy nor Flaubert invented the novel and D. W. Griffith, the Warner Brothers, Irving Thalberg and Steven Spielberg didn’t invent film-making. Steve Jobs didn’t invent computers and he didn’t invent packet switching or the mouse. But he saw that there were no limits to the power that creative combinations of technology and design could accomplish.

Indeed, everything is a remix, and Jobs was the master of networked knowledge and combinatorial creativity.
